Borders & Steps In Rockford, MI, And The Surrounding Greater Grand Rapids Area.

Borders

Borders are a nice way to add a finishing touch to your concrete. The borders we create are done at the same time as the rest of the patio. Most of the time we use an aggressive texture on the border called Roman slate. Due to the small scale of a border, it is important to have a pattern that is aggressive so that the texture can be seen. A typical border is 8 to 10 inches wide.

Borders are usually colored in the same manner that we use with integral color and release. If you choose a light brown for the integral color of your patio, you should choose a darker brown color for the border of your patio and then an even darker colored release that will be stamped into both the main patio and border. This creates a contrast in both the main patio and the border but also helps tie them together. We have done borders that are lighter than the main integral color and using a darker release.  They work well too.

Concrete Steps

Concrete steps are another common feature found on many projects. Concrete steps look great and work well but do add significant cost to the project. In most cases, if there are more than two steps, we will pour the steps separately than the rest of the patio due to the extra time and detail involved. Sometimes, it works better and is more cost effective to have steps made from other materials like wood, composite decking, paving blocks or natural stone.
