Custom Stamped Concrete Rockford MI

Stamped concrete is poured concrete that is designed to resemble brick, slate, flagstone, stone, tile and even wood. The durability of concrete, combined with the wide array of patterns and colors, and the cost compared to other products make stamped concrete a more and more popular choice for both homeowners and home builders. Concrete provides the perfect canvas for creating an economical replica of more expensive materials, and yet maintains a very natural, authentic look. Yet stamped concrete surpasses these traditional favorites in many ways, offering greater versatility, economy, long-term performance and ease of installation.

Unlike pavers or natural stone, concrete offers myriad options for customization because it can be shaped, imprinted, textured and colored to achieve almost any look imaginable. Colors and patterns for stamped concrete are often chosen to blend with other stone, tile or patterned concrete elements at the residence. Stamped concrete can also be combined with other materials like traditional concrete or landscaping materials.

While stamped concrete cost may exceed that of asphalt or plain brushed concrete, it is lower than the cost of installing natural stone and brick or precast pavers. The main reason is the labor component - it is more economical to pour concrete and apply a pattern than it is to haul and place individual paving units by hand.

Keep in mind that your initial outlay for a stamped concrete project is only part of the total cost equation. Don't forget to consider these important factors:

  • Longevity and upkeep. Concrete generally lasts longer and requires less maintenance than most other paving materials, which can add up to big savings over the pavement's lifetime.
  • Increase in resale value. Decorative stamped concrete adds curb appeal and aesthetic value to your home, allowing you to maximize the return on your investment.

If you're on a tight budget, you can still achieve impressive results by mixing stamped concrete with fields of less-expensive plain concrete, such as installing a driveway with a border and/or approach done with stamped concrete. Or you can do the work in stages, maybe tackling the front driveway and walkway one year followed by your backyard patio or pool deck a year or two later. Your patience will be rewarded!

How to Design Your Custom Stamped Concrete

The design process begins with a vision. Whether you are looking for the rustic appeal of weathered wood or the classic elegance of European cobblestone, our design consultation helps you navigate the vast array of patterns and pigments. By layering integral base colors with antiquing release agents, we create a multidimensional look that mirrors natural stone with the unparalleled durability of concrete.

Designing your custom stamped concrete is a simple and exciting process. First, you’ll choose a pattern; browse the files for ideas, or check out the many other options on our website. Next, you’ll pick an 'integral color' from the chart, which is a dye mixed into the concrete to give it a solid base color. To create that signature two-toned look, we apply a 'release' color from the release chart on top before stamping. We usually recommend choosing a release that is a darker shade than your base—like a dark brown over light brown—to add contrast, though universal colors like dark gray or charcoal look great with almost any base. This layering of the mixed-in color and the surface release is exactly what gives stamped concrete its natural, realistic depth.

The Pattern is the type of surface material the concrete is designed to replicate. We have over 50 different available patterns that you can choose from. These patterns are imprinted on the concrete surface with rubber stamps that resemble and fit together like large puzzle pieces.
